An epic of seven parts. An epic of wolf and angel. An epic of peasant’s war of 14th century in Germany. Note, that it was the war when the rebel draw Wolfsangel rune on their flags. Since it is the epic, the first part gives the summary of all the libretto. I used the classical English limerick of a girl and a tiger to make it up. As for the battle, I allotted the peasant’s army with the attributes of Moon and night and the army of mercenaries with the attributes of Sun and day on purpose. The story of wolf and angel also deals with the luminaries, so there is the third line in this epic. The final part is the reverse of Lullaby. Twilight and death and everybody is food for the wolf. One more comment: "Morrison’s Jug" and "Mourning After" are not misprints. (A.S.)

I have never thought that we can ever make such a lengthy epic. It began from an instrumental piece (one called "Battle For Nothing" later) settled into another tune. Then the song developed rapidly. The "Morrison’s Jug" (part number 4) appeared because of Dmitri Kourtsman, leader of The Dartz. Once he told me that any true folk band must play the traditional Irish jig called "Morrison’s Jig". "So it shall be done" was my answer and one more part was added to the epic. The only problem was that we had to accelerate it to meet the song tempo and no fiddler we knew could play it (classical violinists can but they play in different manner). Suddenly we found a good fiddler, or should I say he found us by the notice on the Internet. He is Nikolai Kirsanov, ex-member of band Willy Winky from St.Petersburg who lives in Helsinki, Finland now. He was not embarrassed neither by tempo nor by the fact we play metal (ha-ha). The information was also exchanged via Internet. I sent rough mixes to Nikolai and he replied with some recorded tracks. I can say it was a process both hard and easy. I should place one more comment: you can hear the Second Spell of Merseburg (see the comments to "Barditus") in the atmospheric part of the song ("Cry Of Idises"). This spell is for tying the enemy. The voice (my whisper) is processed by a row of 12 various effects. For no one to guess :) (D.P.)

Lyrics

Part 1: Narration

Once an angel who searched for the truth
Tried to look for it riding a wolf
The result of the ride was the angel inside
And the smile on the face of the wolf

Part 2: Midnight Ride

They had ridden through the centuries
Pretty angel and gray wolf
Only dust remains but not the
Angel’s feathers or wolf’s tooth
Howled the wolf for moon in darkness
Sang the angel for daylight
Road had brought them to a battlefield
Who are those brave men to fight?

Wolf: I can’t go farther
Climb up death ladder
Path’ll be another
I can’t go farther
Take a look at the stone
Take a look at that crone
Take a look and be gone
Angel: Die! Die!

Wolf: Hey pretty angel
Here lies wolfsangel
Stop little angel
Death is wolfsangel

Part 3: Songs for the Moon and Songs for the Sun

Men in rags will fight for freedom
Pitchforks dimly shine in dark
Moonlight owners of the kingdom
They will give their lives for luck
Shadows die and bare the mortals
Day will kill as they’re in sight
Night will cover all the slaughtered
Nightbirds’ll peak their lustr’less eyes

Men in steel will fight for nothing
Speckles spatter faces cold
You will never see them running
They will give their lives for gold
On the pitchfork will be stallions
On the pile of blizzards bliss
Fire ‘ll swallow up their bodies
Only bones ‘ll be left for beasts

Wolf: I can’t go farther
Climb up death ladder
Path ‘ll be another
I can’t go farther
Take a look at the rags
Take a look at the flags
Take a look at that slugs
Angel: Die! Die!

Wolf: Hey stupid angel
I’m on wolfsangel
Help little angel
Death is wolfsangel

Part 4: Morrison’s Jug
instrumental

Part 5: The Battle for Nothing
instrumental

Part 6: Cry of Idises

Eiris sâzun idisi sâzun hera duoder
Suma hapt heptidun suma heri lezidun
Suma clûbôdun umbi cuoniouuidi
Insprinc haptbandun inuar uîgandun

Part 7: Mourning After

In the fields the bodies broken
Some are dead as some not yet
Wolf: Angel, we must end their suff’rings
Angel: Yes, my friend, heal all we’ve met
So the wolf gnew through the throats
Only way he’d like to heal
Souls just went to Hel with angel
Angel’s corpse became his meal

Angel: What will be after?
Life was a hard craft
I’m on a blood shaft
What will be after?
Take a look at my hand
Now you see all around
Take a look at that land

Wolf: Die! Die!
Hey pretty angel
Taste the wolfsangel
Smile little angel
Death is wolfsangel
